Awareness building through SMS campaigns
From TTC: Mobile Advocacy Toolkit Working Meeting wiki
Amnesty International-Netherlands used SMS to attract new members, build awareness of the campaign against torture and engage new people in quickly responding to cases of torture through Urgent Action appeals.
About 39 percent of the cellphone campaigns conducted by Amnesty in 2002 were successful. Prisoners of conscience were released, people who had "disappeared" were found and death sentences were not carried out. Hot ICE, a company that specialises in defining and implementing mobile services, provided the technical platform comprising a website that enabled Amnesty to quickly and easily compose and send text messages. Replies could also be received on the website, which were be downloaded and processed as required.
