From TTC: Mobile Advocacy Toolkit Working Meeting wiki
Over the past four years Tactical Tech has trained over 1000 advocates and technologists working in developing and transition countries in the use of technology for social change. It believes that new technologies have the potential to significantly enhance the work of campaigners and advocates, giving them the tools to gather and analyse information and the means to turn that information into action.
Tactical Tech is one of a number of organisations who take a predominantly technological or information-oriented approach to campaigning and organising. Its staff have an in-depth working knowledge of advocacy organisations and technologists working across a range of sectors and geographies. It has consulted to a wide range of organisations and movements and developed a strong reputation for convening and training advocates and technologists around 'demystifying' technologies.
What is Tactical Tech Working On?
Tactical Tech is actively working on a range of initiatives that aim to increase the impact of rights advocates and marginalised communities. At the same time, it is engaged - more broadly - in efforts to increase freedom of expression and diversify participation in social issues through the use of technology.
It's work is currently organised around three areas;
- 'skills building' (toolkits, guides, workshops, training camps)
- 'movement building' (working with specific issue areas such as Sex-Worker Health and Rights Advocates and the Burmese movement)
- 'opening technologies' (driving the opening up of technology for social use, such as translating tools in to local languages to increase their accessibility).
