The International Center for Accelerated Development (ICAD)in Nigeria, with support from FAHAMU and HIVOS, used mobile phones to mobilise people to come together for a rally during the the Global AIDS week of action campaign and activism, which began in April 2008. The participation of civil society organisations, community members, youth groups and all stake holders to do a “stand-up” campaign to present a seven point agenda to government was facilitated by the use of mobile phones. The event took place in Ebonyi state of Nigeria on the 23rd May 2008. The objective was primarily to prompt government to be accountable in ensuring access to nutritious food, Anti Retroviral Therapy (ART) and livelihood options for people living with HIV in line with Universal Access (UA) by 2010. They managed to gather over 250 attendees. Due to this, attention was drawn and the government made a lot of commitments which they hope would be fulfilled.
